What to Expect During a Window Replacement

Windows are significant investments so it’s important to have an idea of what the installation process is like. Choose high-quality and energy-efficient products to ensure your home’s protection and comfort.

In this post, your local siding contractor, Pritchett Roofing, Inc., discusses a typical window replacement process.

Day 1: Removing and Replacing Old Windows

The duration of the installation depends on the style of windows and the amount that’s going to be installed. Usually, it can take around 30 minutes to replace each window.

On the first day of replacement, you’ll meet the job foreman and walk through your home, checking each window. Take this as an opportunity to see if your contractor has ordered the right windows. With a multi-person crew, one team of installers will bring in the windows as the other removes old windows. Walk around your house to see if they have placed drop cloths. You may also place drop cloths over plants or flower beds if you want to protect them from dust.

The ropes for the sash weights are cut and weights drop below the window pocket. Your new windows will be secured and balanced with shims. The installers will bring the old windows outside. Around 10 windows can be replaced each working day, depending on how many installers there are.

The team should keep all their tools, clean the rooms and dispose the windows before they go. At Pritchett Roofing, Inc., after the a window or roof replacement is complete, our team cleans up with utmost care.

Days 2 and 3: Finishing and Exterior Cladding

The next day, the installers will continue to remove and install windows. Once the replacement is done, the team will start installing exterior trim on the windows. The exterior trim or cladding gives your windows a weathertight seal.

In average-sized homes, the second day ends the window replacement process. The house will then be cleaned and the windows will be tested. However, it can take another day to finish the installation of exterior cladding.
