How to Tell if You’re Dealing With a Local Roofer

Professional roof replacement requires years of experience and proper training to ensure the job is done right the first time. After a storm, out-of-town roofers may knock on your door to offer their services. It can be tempting to use their services, especially if your local contractor is swamped with emergency repair calls. Some of these out-of-town contractors may mean well, but generally, it’s best to avoid roofers who aren’t from your area as they could be storm chasers.

In this post, Pritchett Roofing Inc. shares tips on how to spot a storm chaser.

They Claim They Were Sent by Your Insurer

Reputable roofers offer thorough roof inspections. Storm chasers may claim they can do these for you because they work with your insurer. Don’t agree to any service they offer and verify with your insurer if they sent you a roofer to inspect and fix your damaged roof. Typically, insurance companies send an adjuster to first assess the damage.

They Ask for Large Upfront Fees

Local roofers may ask for an upfront fee to cover initial work expenses, but this is usually a small amount. If a roofing contractor asks you to pay a huge sum or the entire bill before work even starts, consider it a red flag. Decline their offer and look for a local roofer.

They Claim They Are Endorsed by FEMA

FEMA does not endorse any roofers. If a roofing company claims that FEMA sent them to provide roof repair services in your neighborhood, this isn’t true and you should avoid them.

They Use Pressuring Sales Tactics

If a roofer pressures you to sign on and enlist their services right then and there, you should stop and decline their service. A reputable contractor will not employ such tactics; they will give you enough time to think and consider your options.
